Kabul, March 22 (NationPress) The Taliban has alleged that Pakistani military forces have targeted civilians in Afghanistan's Kunar and Paktika provinces on Sunday, resulting in the death of one individual and injuring another.

According to Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat, the Pakistani military launched mortar attacks in the Shanpat area of Nari district, Kunar, around 9:30 a.m. (local time). He reported that a civilian was killed and a woman was wounded during this assault.

Fitrat further noted that Pakistani troops also opened fire on a civilian vehicle in Shkin district, Paktika, though there were no injuries reported in that instance.

"On this Sunday, marking the fourth day of Eid al-Fitr, at 9:30 a.m., a mortar shell from the Pakistani military struck the Shanpat area of Nari district in Kunar province. This resulted in the martyrdom of a civilian and injuries to a woman. Additionally, the militias of the Pakistani regime targeted a civilian vehicle in Shkin district of Paktika province. Fortunately, the passengers escaped without harm," Fitrat shared on X.

These incidents occurred despite a ceasefire declared by Afghanistan and Pakistan in celebration of Eid. The Taliban has accused Pakistani forces of consistently breaching the ceasefire and launching attacks in Kunar and Nuristan during this festive period, leading to civilian casualties.

Afghanistan's Chief of Armed Forces, Fasihuddin Fitrat, criticized the Pakistan military for violating the ceasefire along the Durand Line on Friday.

Statements from Afghanistan's Ministry of Defence indicated that multiple casualties were reported from attacks in border regions carried out by Pakistani forces. Fitrat emphasized that Pakistan's ongoing military actions, despite the ceasefire, reflect a lack of commitment and are deceptive, as reported by Ariana News.

He asserted that Afghanistan has chosen to refrain from retaliatory measures to avoid exacerbating the situation and has maintained its commitment to the ceasefire. However, he warned that if such attacks continue, the ceasefire would lose its significance, and the Taliban would respond decisively to Pakistan's provocations, according to Ariana News.

Earlier this week, Afghanistan announced a suspension of its 'Rad al-Zulm' defensive operations for Eid, following requests from mediation countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. Pakistan also declared a temporary halt in military operations for the Eid celebrations, with Information Minister Ataullah Tarar stating that this decision was made at the request of regional mediators.
