Washington, Nov 5 (NationPress) The White House has stated that US President Donald Trump holds tremendous respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that the two leaders communicate quite frequently.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed inquiries regarding the India-US relationship on Tuesday, emphasizing that Trump feels very positively about the partnership. She remarked, “The President has great respect for Prime Minister Modi, and they engage in talks quite regularly.”
Leavitt also pointed out last month's Diwali celebration held at the White House and the nomination of Sergio Gor as the next US Ambassador to India as indications of the US President’s dedication to strengthening ties with India.
“Just a few weeks ago, he directly communicated with the Prime Minister during the Diwali festivities in the Oval Office, attended by several prominent Indian American officials. We have an excellent US Ambassador to India in Mr. Sergio Gor, who will represent our nation effectively,” she added.
On October 21, Trump hosted a distinctive Diwali event at the White House, where he referred to Prime Minister Modi as “a remarkable individual” and expressed his affection for “the people of India”.
The celebration saw attendance from Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra, Sergio Gor, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, along with key leaders from the Indian diaspora.
During the event, Trump illuminated a diya in the Oval Office, describing it as “a beacon of faith in the triumph of light over darkness” and extending his “warmest wishes to the people of India”.
Regarding trade discussions, Leavitt revealed that Trump and his team are engaged in serious negotiations with their Indian counterparts.
“The President and his trade team are in serious discussions with India regarding this matter,” she stated.
