US Airstrikes Target Houthi Military Installations in Northern Yemen

Aden, Jan 8 (NationPress) US airstrikes executed seven attacks on military installations held by the Houthi group in northern Yemen on Wednesday, as stated by a military official from the Yemeni government forces to Xinhua news agency.

The official, who requested anonymity, indicated that the strikes focused on significant military sites in the Harf Sufyan district of Amran province and the Jarban area in the Sanhan district, situated south of the Yemeni capital Sanaa.

No information was provided about casualties or the extent of the damage resulting from the airstrikes.

The source noted that some of the targeted locations are suspected to be underground weapons storage facilities utilized by the Houthi group.

In a statement released on X, US Central Command (CENTCOM) verified the airstrikes, declaring, "CENTCOM forces executed multiple precise strikes against two Iranian-backed Houthi underground Advanced Conventional Weapon (ACW) storage facilities within Houthi-controlled territories of Yemen on Jan. 8."

The statement further explained that these facilities were employed by the Houthi group to launch attacks on US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

No immediate response has been issued by the Houthi group concerning the strikes.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have been executing rocket and drone assaults on Israeli cities and interfering with "Israeli-linked" shipping in the Red Sea.

In retaliation, the US-led naval coalition in the region has been conducting regular air attacks on Houthi targets since January 2024 to deter the militant group.

The Houthi group announced on Tuesday that it had targeted the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the northern Red Sea using two winged missiles and four drones, alongside attacks on sites in Israel.

The group claimed they had executed a significant military operation while the American enemy was preparing to launch a major air offensive against Yemen, which they asserted had "failed" thanks to their actions, as stated by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea in a broadcast by the Houthi-operated al-Masirah TV.

Sarea also mentioned that Houthis targeted two military sites in Tel Aviv and a "vital target" in Ashkelon, Israel, with drones.

"We will persist in our operations supporting the Palestinian resistance, and these actions will continue until the aggression on Gaza ceases and the blockade is lifted," he added.

This Houthi announcement coincided with the arrival of UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg in the Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa, marking his first visit in over a year and a half to advance the stalled peace negotiations.
