Imphal, March 10 (NationPress) The Manipur Police have detained 17 militants across three distinct districts, seizing vehicles, motorcycles, and cash from various extremist groups, as reported by officials on Monday.

A police spokesperson stated that 13 militants were captured on Sunday in the Imphal West district, while three extremists were taken into custody in the Imphal East district and one in Tengnoupal district, which borders Myanmar.

Among the 17 arrested militants, three are female members.

The militants were affiliated with the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

The detained individuals were involved in extorting money from officials, contractors, traders, and the general public, as well as transporting arms and ammunition and committing various other offenses.

The police also confiscated 14 mobile phones, two vehicles, one motorcycle, ₹1.07 lakh in cash, and numerous incriminating documents.

According to the official, joint search operations by the Army, paramilitary units, and other Central and state forces are ongoing in over 10 districts to retrieve the stolen arms and ammunition.

Security forces have also been conducting area dominance in the fringe, vulnerable, and mixed populated areas of hill and valley districts to capture the militants and other armed groups.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in five hilly districts, including Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Tengnoupal, remains tense yet calm.

A police representative in Imphal indicated that a significant number of security personnel from both Central and state forces have been deployed in Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl, and Jiribam districts.

On Saturday, at least 43 individuals, including 27 security personnel, sustained injuries, and a protester lost their life during clashes in Kangpokpi and other districts, as Kuki-Zo tribal organizations protested the resumption of bus services between Imphal and the hill districts, aiming to ease public inconvenience and foster normalcy in the state.
