Kolkata, April 19 (NationPress) Just a day after the visit of West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, authorities recovered 17 mini and handmade socket bombs from Malda district, which borders Murshidabad. This area had been experiencing unrest recently due to communal violence that erupted after protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act escalated into riots.
On Friday, the Governor visited a relief camp situated within a school in Malda district, where many individuals displaced by the Murshidabad disturbances are currently sheltered.
The mini-socket bombs were found in a plastic bag concealed in a sugarcane field in the Baishnabnagar region of Malda, coinciding with the Governor's tour of troubled areas in Murshidabad, where he interacted with affected residents. Notably, the relief camp the Governor visited is also located in Baishnabnagar.
Local villagers first noticed the plastic bag and promptly alerted the nearby police station.
Police personnel arrived on the scene, securing the area to protect the public.
Subsequently, a bomb squad was dispatched to safely recover and defuse the explosives.
Authorities are currently investigating the origins and intentions behind the placement of these bombs.
In light of this incident, local residents have expressed the need for heightened security measures in the vicinity.
Sources mentioned that had there been an explosion, the consequences could have been extremely severe.
During his visit to the Baishnabnagar relief camp on Friday, the Governor pledged to personally oversee the full rehabilitation of each family displaced by the recent violence in Murshidabad.
“Many homes have been destroyed. The families will only return once complete rehabilitation is assured. My visit here was to gain firsthand insight into the situation. I will provide a thorough report upon my return,” the Governor informed the media.
Coincidentally, he was quite near the location where the bombs were found.
