Bhuj, Feb 4 (NationPress) More than 200 individuals, comprising veterans, their family members, and residents from isolated regions of Kutch district, have successfully regained their eyesight after a three-day surgical eye camp organized by the Indian Army at the Military Hospital in Bhuj, Gujarat.

This initiative, in partnership with an expert ophthalmology team from the Army Hospital (Research and Referral), New Delhi, also conducted thorough eye screenings for over 2,500 patients.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, visited the camp to engage with beneficiaries and medical staff.

“Such initiatives greatly enhance the quality of life for both veterans and local residents,” he remarked, praising the medical teams for their commitment and professionalism.

The surgical team was led by Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, who is recognized for performing over 100,000 successful surgeries.

Advanced cataract procedures carried out during the camp restored vision for patients from remote villages in Kutch, while extensive ophthalmic screenings facilitated early detection and timely intervention for other eye-related issues.

As part of the Army’s ongoing outreach in border areas, this camp underscores its dedication to the welfare of veterans and community health in strategically vital regions.

By offering sophisticated diagnostic and surgical services closer to remote communities, the Army has effectively addressed challenges associated with distance and the scarcity of local medical resources.

Lt Gen Seth emphasized the significance of such programs in strengthening ties with border communities.

“The Indian Army will persist in implementing targeted medical and welfare programs to assist both veterans and civilians, thus fortifying the lasting bond with the populace of these areas,” he asserted.
