New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) A total of 251 Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employees were gifted free LPG stoves and cylinders on Friday under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, according to an official announcement.
This special distribution event took place at the Civic Centre, the headquarters of the MCD.
In his address, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Chaudhary emphasized that the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is a crucial initiative focused on enhancing women’s health and empowering them.
He pointed out that the scheme is a reflection of the efforts led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support farmers, laborers, and the underprivileged.
The event was attended by notable figures including Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh.
Also present were Deputy Mayor Jaibhagwan Yadav, Chairperson of the Standing Committee Satya Sharma, Chairman of the Environment Management Committee Sandeep Kapoor, Chairman of the Education Committee Yogesh Verma, former Mayor Avtar Singh, Convener Rakesh Prajapati of the Ujjwala Yojana, along with several office-bearers and numerous beneficiaries.
Union Minister Chaudhary stated that previously, especially during the monsoon season, women encountered significant challenges while cooking, but with the Ujjwala Yojana, this issue has been largely alleviated.
The smoke produced by firewood and traditional cooking methods posed health and environmental hazards, and this initiative has contributed to mitigating those negative impacts.
Delhi BJP chief Sachdeva remarked that the nation has experienced considerable transformation over the last 12 years.
Recognizing the challenges faced by women, Prime Minister Modi introduced programs such as clean cooking fuel to ensure women can work in the kitchen without difficulties.
He mentioned that the PMUY has significantly aided the mission for a pollution-free Delhi.
Sachdeva added that a nation can only develop when progress begins in the household kitchen.
For many years, women from impoverished families were compelled to cook using smoke-emitting stoves, leading to serious health issues. Through the Ujjwala Yojana, PM Modi has provided clean fuel, liberating women from this burden.
Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh stated that gas cylinders have been distributed to 251 employees under the PMUY.
He mentioned that under PM Modi's leadership, the MCD is continually striving to ensure that women in Delhi reap the benefits of this scheme.
Programme conveners Sandeep Kapoor and Yogesh Verma noted that the Ujjwala Yojana has improved women’s health, saved time, and made their lives safer and more dignified.
