50 Million Devotees Immerse Themselves in Sangam Ahead of Paush Purnima

Mahakumbh Nagar, Jan 12 (NationPress) On Sunday, an impressive 50 million devotees took a sacred dip a day prior to the initial bathing festival, Paush Purnima, which is scheduled to start on Monday alongside Mahakumbh 2025.

The positive impact of the Yogi Adityanath government’s meticulous preparations aimed at ensuring a convenient bathing experience for the devotees is becoming evident even before the Mahakumbh begins, as the devotees displayed a joyful demeanor amidst the festive atmosphere.

On Sunday, ahead of the first bathing festival of Paush Purnima, approximately 50 million pilgrims took a holy dip at Sangam Triveni. A multitude of saints, sages, men, women, the elderly, and children participated in the sacred immersion.

On Saturday, at least 33 million devotees also took a dip in Sangam.

This year, it is anticipated that over 450 million individuals will bathe in Sangam during the Mahakumbh.

Reports indicate that prior to the bathing festival, all prominent saints and sages have entered the Akhara area.

During the first 'Amrit Snan' on Makar Sankranti on January 14, all the Akharas will perform their bathing rituals in sequential order.

Prayagraj has experienced a significant transformation under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, evolving from once narrow and dilapidated roads to a well-developed city in preparation for Mahakumbh 2025.

The city is undergoing a world-class transformation ahead of the largest congregation of followers of Sanatan Dharma. More than 200 roads have been built and upgraded, ensuring smooth accessibility for millions of pilgrims expected to attend this grand spiritual event.

Additionally, these roads have been beautified with over 300,000 plants and 100,000 horticultural saplings, elevating their aesthetic appeal. As devotees travel to Prayagraj for Mahakumbh, they will enjoy not only seamless transportation but also lasting memories of the city's enhanced and inviting environment.

In addition to the construction of new roads, many existing ones have been widened and improved for better traffic flow.

The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation has spearheaded this initiative, successfully reconstructing, widening, and reinforcing 78 roads. The Public Works Department (PWD) has developed 74 roads, while the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) has worked on 48 roads.

A diverse range of plants has been planted along the routes, with 300,000 plants and 100,000 horticultural saplings adorning these improved roads. These beautified pathways promise to offer devotees a smooth and spiritually fulfilling journey to Sangam, allowing them to experience divine bliss during their visit to Mahakumbh.

The construction and development of these roads posed significant challenges for the three departments involved. One of the major hurdles was tackling encroachments along the routes. In total, 4,426 encroachments were eliminated to ensure clear paths for both devotees and the residents of Prayagraj.

A total of 4,893 electric poles were successfully relocated to facilitate the roadwork.

As part of the development efforts, 170 km of underground cabling has also been laid alongside the road construction, further modernizing the city’s infrastructure and enhancing its capability to host the grand Mahakumbh event.
