Guwahati, Feb 7 (NationPress) As part of the Ministry of Defence's initiative, a job fair took place at the Narangi cantonment camp in Guwahati on Friday, aiming to connect ex-servicemen in search of re-employment with potential employers, as reported by officials.
An official announcement indicated that the fair received an enthusiastic turnout from ex-servicemen across Assam and surrounding areas.
More than 1000 Ex-Servicemen from the Army, Navy, and Airforce registered to explore employment opportunities. Over 55 companies participated in the fair, presenting more than 1500 job openings and over 250 entrepreneurship options.
Ex-servicemen who were shortlisted will undergo interviews and evaluations for positions ranging from Senior Supervisors and Mid/Senior level managers to Strategic Planners and Project Directors. This event proved advantageous for both the Corporates and the Veterans,” the statement highlighted.
A senior Army official remarked that this platform allowed veterans to demonstrate their technical and administrative skills developed during their service, while Corporates gained access to a pool of experienced, disciplined, and trained Ex-Servicemen.
Additionally, various companies showcased entrepreneurship models during the job fair.
The event was inaugurated by Assam Minister Prashanta Phukan, alongside other dignitaries.
Recently, a reunion rally for ex-servicemen was also held in Boko, located in the Kamrup district, to address issues related to pensions, banking, and documentation.
This rally saw the participation of 126 ex-servicemen, including one visually impaired veteran, as well as 86 widows and 104 wives and dependents of former Army personnel.
The event was presided over by Brig Polash Choudhury, SM (Retd.), Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, as Chief Guest, with Col Padmalochan Barman (Retd.), Welfare Officer at the Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Kamrup (M), and his team serving as hosts. The rally also welcomed Pushpalata Boro, widow of the late Sub Dadhi Ram Boro, a veteran of the 1971 War, among others.
