Gwalior, March 28 (NationPress) - On Saturday, Adani Defence and Aerospace marked a significant achievement by delivering the inaugural batch of 2,000 Prahar Light Machine Guns (LMGs) to the Indian Armed Forces. CEO Ashish Rajvanshi described this moment as a historic milestone for the 'Make in India' initiative.
The 7.62 mm-calibre LMGs are produced at Adani's Small Arms Complex on the outskirts of Gwalior.
“Our commitment is to deliver 41,000 LMGs over seven years, but with our current momentum, we are poised to complete this in under three years for the Indian Armed Forces,” Rajvanshi conveyed to IANS during the event.
“With this initial delivery of 2,000 LMGs, we are confident in achieving a monthly production of 1,000 units, which is a remarkable feat,” he emphasized.
The event saw attendance from A. Anbarasu, the Director General of Acquisition at the Ministry of Defence, along with other senior officials from the private sector. Anbarasu also initiated the dispatch of trucks carrying the LMGs intended for the Army.
“These advancements are crucial as they align with the 'Make in India' strategy. Securing foundational technology from our partners was essential,” Rajvanshi remarked to the press.
“This journey began in 2020, driven by the vision of ‘Aatmanirbharta’. Initially uncertain of our trajectory, the unwavering dedication of our team and the backing from policymakers over the past five years have transformed us from a component manufacturer to a full-fledged gun OEM,” Rajvanshi noted.
Anbarasu highlighted the ability to rapidly convert contracts into tangible deliveries.
