Srinagar, Oct 20 (NationPress) Senior leader of the National Conference (NC) and Lok Sabha member, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, declared on Monday that his loyalty lies with his conscience rather than any external influence.
This statement came in response to comments made by the NC candidate for the Budgam assembly constituency by-election, Aga Syed Mehmood, who claimed that Ruhullah would actively campaign for the NC in the district.
Previously, Ruhullah expressed his inability to face the public, stating that the commitments made by the party have not been honored.
Two days ago, he urged the Omar Abdullah-led NC government to publicly disclose the recommendations concerning reservations in government jobs and professional courses, which were approved by the cabinet in their most recent meeting.
In a media conference, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah later stated that the recommendations regarding reservations cannot be revealed until they receive approval from the Lieutenant Governor.
“Making these recommendations public without authorization would not only breach procedure but could also be deemed unlawful,” Omar remarked during the media briefing, addressing Ruhullah's request.
The Chief Minister emphasized that any reservations for government jobs and professional colleges must prioritize merit, ensuring a larger quota is accessible for open merit candidates.
“This has been a demand from the public, and to address this, the government established a cabinet sub-committee led by Education Minister Sakina Itoo,” he noted.
In a post on X today, Ruhullah reiterated that his loyalty is anchored in his conscience and principles, dismissing imposed narratives.
“My loyalty is to my conscience and principles. I have great respect for my elders in my family, but I urge them not to undermine my struggle. If they cannot understand it or participate, I kindly ask them not to involve me in this way,” Ruhullah stated.
This strong declaration from the NC MP signifies his determination to distance himself from the electoral campaign.
Ruhullah enjoys significant public support in his home district of Budgam, where he is also a voter for the Budgam assembly seat, with elections set for November 11.
