Is AIMIM Targeting Minority Migrant Workers to Challenge Trinamool in Bengal Assembly Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 19 (NationPress) The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), established by Asaduddin Owaisi, is gearing up to participate in the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal. The party aims to spotlight the considerable number of minority migrant workers from the state as its key strategy to challenge the ruling Trinamool Congress.
The AIMIM leadership has initiated a campaign in districts with significant minority populations, such as Malda and Murshidabad, as well as in Assembly constituencies like Cooch Behar, North Dinajpur, Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and Howrah.
“Our agenda is straightforward. A large segment of the migrant workforce in West Bengal belongs to the minority community. This indicates that the Trinamool Congress-led government has not genuinely prioritized the economic and social advancement of Muslim youth by creating job opportunities for them. Therefore, we are reaching out to minority voters to help them understand that the much-promoted minority-friendly approach of the ruling party is merely superficial,” stated a senior AIMIM leader.
He added that the AIMIM's efforts are already producing favorable outcomes for the party. “In several minority-dominated areas and pockets, migrants and their families who were previously aligned with the Trinamool Congress since 2011 have now officially joined AIMIM. They have come to recognize our message that beyond superficial gestures, what Muslim youth truly need are employment prospects, which are unattainable under the current Trinamool Congress regime,” he explained.
It is almost certain that AIMIM will contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections this year in coalition with the Janata Unnayan Party, led by the controversial former Trinamool Congress legislator, Humayun Kabir.
Moreover, AIMIM is also open to collaborating with the CPI(M)-led Left Front, although no agreement has yet been confirmed by the Left leadership.
