Alka Lamba Critiques Atishi, Stresses CM Residence is Not a Permanent Fixture

New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) As the competition for the Kalkaji Assembly seat in Delhi escalates, Congress candidate Alka Lamba on Wednesday retaliated against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s claims that the BJP-led Union government had 'stolen her home.' Lamba countered Atishi’s assertions, stating that the Chief Minister’s residence is a temporary arrangement and not a lasting entitlement for anyone.
In conversation with IANS, Lamba remarked, 'Atishi is claiming she was ousted from the Chief Minister's residence, but the decision of who occupies that residence is made by the people of Delhi, not by anyone else. This residence is not a permanent structure; it serves as temporary housing, similar to what former Chief Ministers Sheila Dikshit and Arvind Kejriwal experienced.'
Lamba also criticized Atishi's emotional narrative, highlighting the alleged financial misconduct during the COVID-19 pandemic. She stated, 'The Chief Minister’s residence, a temporary dwelling, utilized Rs 33 crore during the pandemic while citizens struggled to find oxygen and hospital beds. This is the unfortunate reality.'
Further, Lamba addressed the challenges faced by women leaders, asserting, 'Atishi, you are a woman and so am I. We understand the significance of pride and respect. When women step into the arena, half the population rises with them. We cannot afford to be emotional; we must advocate for our sisters who face much greater challenges in their homes and communities.'
Lamba also criticized the treatment of Atishi by AAP leadership, stating, 'Arvind Kejriwal is belittling his own party member by referring to her as a 'Temporary Chief Minister.' Atishi is quietly enduring this, but we will not. I stand with you, Atishi, and together we shall fight.'
As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, the contest in Kalkaji is evolving into a fierce three-way battle among AAP, BJP, and Congress.
The AAP has nominated Atishi for Kalkaji, while the BJP has chosen former MP Ramesh Bidhuri. Congress is aiming to regain the seat by fielding Lamba, setting the stage for a high-stakes contest in the constituency.
