Amaravati Set to Become India's First State Capital with Piped Gas Supply

Amaravati, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has put forward a plan for Amaravati to become the first state capital in India equipped with a piped gas supply.
A delegation led by A. Raman Kumar, a representative from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), convened with the state's Chief Secretary Nirabh Kumar Prasad on Tuesday to deliberate on gas pipeline initiatives and related advancements.
As per an official announcement, IOC officials suggested transforming Amaravati into the nation’s inaugural fully piped gas capital.
They drew parallels with the Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT) located in Gandhinagar, where all utilities, including gas, electricity, and telecommunications, are placed underground. In GIFT City, piped gas is currently provided to residences, commercial complexes, and institutions. In a similar vein, they proposed establishing a piped gas system for Amaravati, positioning it as India’s first piped gas capital.
Chief Secretary Nirabh Kumar Prasad expressed his backing for the initiative and guaranteed that the state government would extend complete support in this endeavor.
K. Dinesh Kumar, Director of Andhra Pradesh Gas Development Corporation, indicated that they aim to extend piped gas connections to 8 million residents across the state in the forthcoming days. Following the meeting with the Chief Secretary, PNGRB representatives visited the RTGS and held discussions with officials from the AP Gas Development Corporation.
They reviewed the status of the natural gas pipeline construction and the city gas distribution project. The objective is to facilitate piped gas supply to 8 million households statewide shortly. Dinesh Kumar sought collaboration from PNGRB officials to meet this target and assured comprehensive support to tackle any field-related issues during the gas pipeline construction.
The meeting included participation from City Gas Distribution Director Lt. Col. Kumar Ashish, Indian Oil Corporation General Manager Satyanarayana, among others.
