Will Amit Shah Attend the ISKCON Event in Mayapur Today?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 18 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to engage in a religious event at the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple in Mayapur, located in Nadia district of West Bengal, later today, where he will also address attendees.
According to sources from the West Bengal unit of the BJP, given the sacred nature of the event, the Union Minister is expected to steer clear of making any overt political remarks during his address.
“The primary purpose of Amit Shah’s visit to Mayapur is to partake in the religious gathering commemorating the 152nd holy appearance day of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, a 19th-century Vaishnav revivalist and founder of the Gaudiya Math. Due to the religious significance of the entire day’s events at the ISKCON temple, it is anticipated that the Union Home Minister will refrain from delivering political speeches, especially as his visit coincides with the upcoming Assembly elections in the state,” a member of the BJP state committee stated.
According to the itinerary, Amit Shah is expected to arrive at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport around 2 p.m. and will then travel directly to Mayapur via a special helicopter. He will be accompanied by the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, along with several other state BJP leaders.
Upon landing at approximately 2:25 p.m., he will reach the premises of the ISKCON temple using a golf cart.
Following his arrival at the temple, he will pay homage at the statue of ISKCON founder, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Subsequently, he will engage in various religious rituals such as Narsingh Puja, Panchayatana Puja, and Ashtasakhi Puja.
At around 3 p.m., the Union Home Minister will take his place at the main stage of the event, with his address scheduled to commence at 3:20 p.m. “While it is unlikely he will deliver political commentary, all attention will be on his speech to see if he conveys any subtle messages,” noted a state BJP committee member.
