Kolkata, March 22 (NationPress) A planned visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to West Bengal aimed at reviewing the BJP's organizational framework in the region has been postponed temporarily, as informed by the party’s state president and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar.
Initially, the Union Minister was slated to arrive in Kolkata on the night of March 29 for a one-day visit, during which he would participate in a series of organizational meetings on March 30.
However, Majumdar stated that the visit has been delayed due to the upcoming Eid festival. “He will definitely visit the state soon. The revised schedule will be shared shortly,” Majumdar noted.
He also mentioned that with the crucial West Bengal Assembly elections approaching next year, not only will the Union Home Minister tour the state, but other central BJP leaders are also expected to make frequent visits in the near future.
This is not the first occasion that the Union Home Minister’s visit to West Bengal has been rescheduled.
Previously, in January of this year, Shah was supposed to speak at a public rally in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal and participate in other organizational meetings, but that tour was also canceled due to the Union Home Minister's other commitments.
The upcoming visit later this month was significant, especially since the state unit of the party is about to appoint a new state president. As a current Union Minister of State, Majumdar will not be able to hold the position of the party’s state president for long due to the BJP's policy of ‘one person, one post’.
Last week, the West Bengal unit of the BJP revealed the names of 25 organizational district presidents, among which 15 were newcomers.
The BJP in West Bengal now has a total of 43 organizational districts, encompassing all 42 Lok Sabha constituencies and 294 Assembly constituencies across the state.
Following the final announcement of the organizational district presidents, the crucial declaration regarding the new state president of the party in West Bengal will follow.
