Guwahati, March 18 (NationPress) The officials at the Dibrugarh Central Jail have transferred the fourth aide of pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh to the Punjab Police team on Tuesday, which has been deployed to secure the custody of seven of Singh's associates, according to reports.
Named Daljit Singh Kalsi, he was officially handed over to Punjab Police security personnel.
Previously, three other aides of Amritpal Singh—Basant Singh, Gurmeet Singh, and Bhagwant Singh—were also transferred to the Punjab Police team by the Dibrugarh jail authority.
The Punjab Police is preparing to return seven associates of the radical preacher and Lok Sabha MP Amritpal Singh from the Dibrugarh jail in Assam, as the Punjab government has opted not to extend their detention under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).
The detention period for these seven individuals is nearing its conclusion, and the state administration has decided against prolonging their NSA detention.
Amritpal Singh, who heads the 'Waris Punjab De' organization, along with his nine associates, has been incarcerated in Dibrugarh jail, Assam, for the past two years due to NSA charges.
In the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Amritpal Singh ran as an Independent candidate and successfully secured a victory from the Khadoor Sahib seat.
Among the associates who will be returned to Punjab are Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh Bajekhana, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwal, Daljit Singh Kalsi, Gurinderpal Singh Guri Aujla, Harjit Singh, and Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal.
A senior Punjab Police official indicated that the investigation into the attack at the Ajnala police station in 2023 will persist.
The official also clarified that ten individuals detained under the NSA have yet to be formally charged in relation to the Ajnala police station incident.
"We are progressing with the investigation. We will arrest the seven individuals concerning that incident and return them to Punjab," he stated.
"We will bring them here for that case and continue the investigation," the senior police official affirmed.
