Itanagar, Aug 17 (NationPress) The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly is set to convene a special session on Monday to formally wrap up the golden jubilee festivities of its 60-member House, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.
An official revealed that the month-long celebrations, which commenced on July 4, will reach their climax with the special session on Monday (August 18), commemorating the state’s legislative history since 1975.
Last week, Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte presided over a business advisory committee meeting to finalize the agenda for the special session. The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister P.D. Sona, Assembly Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, and members Nikh Kamin and Thangwang Wangham.
The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, which began as a 33-member Provisional Assembly, has since expanded to a 60-member House. Over the past five decades, the Assembly has been instrumental in enacting various laws, shaping policies, and promoting grassroots democracy in this frontier state, which shares a lengthy border of 1817 km with China, Myanmar, and Bhutan.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu previously highlighted the Assembly’s significance as a bedrock of democracy in the state, noting its evolution over the past 50 years into a robust institution that embodies the diverse cultures and aspirations of the people of Arunachal. He commended the contributions of past and present legislators, administrative leaders, and citizens whose collaborative efforts have propelled advancements in governance, infrastructure, education, and social development.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fortifying democratic institutions and ensuring inclusive growth for future generations. “This is not merely a celebration of our past, but a commitment to building a more transparent, accountable, and responsive governance structure,” he added.
Officials indicated that as part of the Assembly’s Golden Jubilee celebrations, a series of events were organized across the state, including special Assembly sittings, cultural programs, and exhibitions over the past five weeks that showcased the legislative legacy of Arunachal Pradesh.
