Parnaik (Retd.), called upon tour operators on Wednesday to embrace a proactive approach in advocating for sustainable and responsible tourism within the state. He emphasized the importance of enhancing community involvement and fostering adventure tourism.
During a meeting with members of the North East India Tourism Confederation and the Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators Association at Lok Bhavan, the Governor highlighted the necessity for prioritizing sustainable practices, skill enhancement, and strategic promotion within the tourism industry.
These efforts, he stated, would not only elevate tourism but also generate job opportunities, conserve Arunachal Pradesh's rich cultural legacy, and facilitate balanced development throughout the region.
The Governor pointed out that tour operator organizations hold a pivotal position in advancing community-based tourism and improving the overall experience for visitors. He underlined the urgent need for eco-friendly practices to safeguard the delicate Himalayan ecosystem.
He encouraged tour operators to actively market homestays and village tourism, ensuring that local populations directly reap the benefits and become integral partners in the growth of this sector.
Reflecting on the state government's vision, he reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is devoted to fortifying its tourism-driven economy responsibly, while safeguarding its forests, rivers, culture, and heritage for the benefit of future generations.
The Governor recognized the vast potential for activities like trekking, mountaineering, river rafting, wildlife tourism, and mountain expeditions in the state. In light of this, he urged tour operators to create innovative adventure packages, establish new trekking routes, and train local guides to entice both domestic and international adventurers.
Expanding trekking and expedition opportunities in less accessible areas would not only enhance tourism but also provide meaningful employment for local youth, he added.
He stressed the significance of capacity building and skill development, proposing that tour operator organizations regularly conduct training sessions for guides, drivers, homestay proprietors, and hospitality personnel to elevate service standards.
Furthermore, Lt Gen Parnaik (Retd.) advised tour operators to partner with government entities to market Arunachal Pradesh through digital platforms, participation in travel expos, influencer promotions, and meticulously curated tour packages to draw a broader audience.
Tsering Wange, Vice President of the North East India Tourism Confederation, along with members of the Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operators Association, including Yomjum Yomgam and Menbi Riddi, participated in the discussions.
