Bhopal, March 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, has announced that Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramcharan Gautam, who tragically lost his life while serving in Gadra village under the Shahpur police station in Mauganj district, will be formally recognized as a martyr.
To honor his ultimate sacrifice, the government will provide a compensation of ₹1 crore to his family, along with a job offer to one of the family members, as stated by the Chief Minister.
The late ASI was accorded full state honors, receiving a ceremonial guard of honor in his native village of Pawaiya.
Unfortunately, Ramcharan Gautam was killed during a violent confrontation in Gadra village on Saturday. This incident began when a tribal family took a young man hostage.
Upon receiving the distress call, the police team encountered a brutal assault from the villagers.
Gautam succumbed to his injuries, while several others, including Shahpur Police Station in-charge Sandeep Bharti, along with head constables Jawahar Yadav, Ankit Shukla, Ramvachan Yadav, Ramnarayan Tiwari, Prem Singh Chouan, Ram Lakhan Mishra, and Krishna Keshav Dwivedi, as well as sub-inspectors Brihaspati Patel and Anant Kumar Mishra, and constables Deepti Singh and Preeti Yadav, along with Tehsildar Kumare Lal Panika, suffered severe injuries.
A total of 13 police personnel were injured, with four being admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Medical Hospital in Rewa, while the rest received treatment at a private facility in Mauganj.
The tribal family not only attacked the police force but also killed the young man, Sunny Dwivedi, whom they had taken hostage.
In light of the violence, the district administration enforced Section 163 in the village, and additional police units were dispatched to restore order.
The Chief Minister has instructed Minister-in-Charge Lakhan Patel to visit the village and assess the situation.
The violent outbreak was rooted in a complex dispute between the Kol tribal community and the Dwivedi family.
This conflict escalated due to grievances regarding the death of Ashok Kol two months prior, which had been determined an accident following a police investigation and autopsy.
Dissatisfied with the investigation's conclusion and feeling neglected by law enforcement, the Kol community is said to have abducted Sunny Dwivedi, accusing him of being responsible for Ashok Kol's demise.
Roughly 250 individuals from the Kol community reportedly held Sunny captive in a grocery store. Attempts by the Dwivedi family to negotiate his release were unsuccessful, leading them to call for police intervention.
Upon the arrival of a police team, along with Tehsildar Kumre Lal Panika and other officials, they encountered fierce resistance.
Villagers hurled stones at the team and even took some officers hostage, subjecting them to severe assaults.
Sub-Divisional Officer Ankita Shulya and Sub-Inspector Arti Verma narrowly escaped by locking themselves in a room. Eventually, reinforcements arrived, allowing law enforcement to regain control of the situation.
The Chief Minister extended his condolences and promised steadfast support to the family of Ramcharan Gautam.
