Guwahati, May 24 (NationPress) In a significant move, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared an increase in the daily wages for tea garden workers across the state, emphasizing that this decision would uplift the community's morale.
The revised wages are applicable to labourers employed in tea gardens managed by Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL).
On his X account, Sarma expressed, “A moment of happiness for our dedicated Cha Shramiks! Effective from October 1, workers in ATCL-operated tea gardens will receive a new daily wage of Rs 250, aimed at enhancing their livelihoods and assisting their families.”
“The Government of Assam remains committed to the welfare of our tea tribe community,” he further stated.
Currently, the daily wage for tea garden labourers stands at Rs 220.
In a separate yet poignant gesture, following the Indian Army's robust response to the Pahalgam terror attack, a local tea entrepreneur in Guwahati has created a unique tribute through tea.
He introduced a special blend named “Sindoor – The Pride,” honoring the Indian Armed Forces for their decisive action during Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 as a response to the tragic killing of tourists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22.
“Sindoor represents pride in Indian culture. We take pride in India’s swift action under Operation Sindoor following the Pahalgam attack. As a tea entrepreneur, I wanted to honor our soldiers in a special way, thus I created the tea pack ‘SINDOOR – The Pride’ as a tribute,” stated the entrepreneur.
He elaborated that these tea packs are not meant for sale but are meticulously designed as gifts for the Indian soldiers, symbolizing respect, gratitude, and unity.
“I crafted these tea packs specifically for the Indian Army. We celebrate every joyful moment with tea, and this occasion is no different. This unique blend combines Assam’s finest teas — Halmari Gold Orthodox and premium CTC. The rich red color of the brew is evocative of Sindoor,” he added.
This tea blend aims to encapsulate the essence of Assam’s tea legacy while embodying the spirit of national pride. The red hue of the tea reflects the traditional Sindoor, a potent symbol of strength, sacrifice, and identity within Indian culture.
