Assam Launches Four-Day 'Gunotsav' School Evaluation Initiative

Guwahati, Jan 6 (NationPress) The four-day 'Gunotsav' aimed at evaluating school education in Assam began on Monday, spanning across 11 districts in the region.
The Gunotsav is conducted in multiple phases throughout Assam, where the quality of education in schools is assessed, enabling the education department to implement necessary improvements.
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu stated, “Gunotsav 2025, under the theme ‘Ensuring Quality Education’, is set to occur from January 6-9 across 11 districts, involving 16,056 schools and 14,11,874 students with assistance from 6,365 external evaluators. We earnestly seek everyone’s cooperation and active participation to ensure the event's success, aiming for a higher education standard for Assam's future.”
In its initial phase, the programme is taking place in Barpeta, Bajali, Sribhumi, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara Mankachar, and Udalguri districts.
Pegu also mentioned that college teachers, who previously decided to boycott the Gunotsav, will now participate in the event as external examiners for school evaluations.
On his X handle, he shared, “Dr. Jayanta Baruah, President of the Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA), informed me via phone that @ACTA_ASSAM will fully support and actively engage in Gunotsav 2025. This state initiative aimed at evaluating and improving school education is set to commence on January 6, 2025. My best wishes to all involved!”
Previously, representatives from the Assam College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) met with Education Minister Ranoj Pegu concerning the boycott of the upcoming Gunotsav and the promotion of professors in various colleges.
Mahanta remarked, “The discussion with the Education Minister was productive. Nonetheless, uncertainties still exist regarding the promotion timelines for college teachers. For now, we are maintaining our initial decision to boycott the education department’s Gunotsav. However, we have extended our association's meeting for tomorrow to deliberate further on participating in the Gunotsav.”
