Aizawl, Jan 17 (NationPress) A senior officer from the Assam Rifles convened a meeting with the Governor and Chief Minister of Mizoram, along with other high-ranking officials, to assess the current conditions along the India-Myanmar border, as stated by officials on Friday.

A defence spokesperson reported that Major General Suresh Bhambhu, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), conducted individual meetings with Governor General (Retd) Vijay Kumar Singh and Chief Minister Lalduhoma.

“Maj Gen Bhambhu elaborated on the current status along the 510 km India-Myanmar border concerning Mizoram during his discussions with both the Governor and the Chief Minister. He also provided insights into the preparedness of the paramilitary forces to tackle border issues,” the spokesperson noted.

Moreover, Maj Gen Bhambhu engaged in a separate dialogue regarding the border situation with Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena and Director General of Police Anil Shukla.

During these discussions, the senior Assam Rifles officer focused on the challenges of border management along the India-Myanmar border and emphasized the need for cohesive strategies among different stakeholders.

“Maj Gen Suresh Kumar Bhambhu, SM, IG Assam Rifles (East), conferred with Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma. Critical topics included security matters and the strategic relocation of the Assam Rifles from Aizawl to Zokhawsang,” a post shared on X by the Chief Minister’s office indicated.

In a noteworthy event in Mizoram, police confiscated a significant quantity of arms and ammunition on Wednesday, linked to an insurgent group in Myanmar supplying to a rebel faction in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of southeast Bangladesh.

A representative from the Mizoram Home Department revealed that five individuals were arrested in connection with the arms cache, including a prominent leader of the Chin National Front (CNF), a Myanmar-based insurgent organization.

The seized arms and ammunition were taken from Saithah village in the bordering Mamit District and comprised six AK-47 rifles, 10,050 cartridges, and 13 magazines.

According to preliminary investigations, the confiscated items were intended for trade between the CNF and the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF-P), another active insurgent group in the CHT.

The Assam Rifles are responsible for securing the 510 km unfenced international border with Myanmar, while the Border Security Force (BSF) oversees the 318 km unfenced border with Bangladesh.
