Atishi Accuses BJP of Harboring Rohingyas in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi launched a strong critique against the BJP for making false allegations about her party concerning the sheltering of Rohingyas and their inclusion in the voters’ register, emphasizing that it is the ruling party that actually brought these refugees to the city.

In a post on social media, CM Atishi referenced a 2022 tweet by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and remarked, “In their haste to blame Arvind Kejriwal, the BJP leaders have forgotten who originally brought and settled them in Delhi and from where.”

She shared Puri’s earlier tweet which stated, “India has consistently embraced those seeking refuge within its borders. In a landmark move, all #Rohingya #Refugees will be relocated to EWS flats in the Bakkarwala area of Delhi, where they will receive essential amenities, UNHCR IDs, and continuous protection from the @DelhiPolice.”

According to the Delhi Chief Minister, the reality has been unveiled to the residents of Delhi. “The truth cannot be hidden; it eventually comes to light. Today, Hardeep Puriji’s tweet has exposed the truth to the people of Delhi.”

A BJP representative countered CM Atishi’s claims on social media, asserting that it was Kejriwal who had, in a letter dated June 23, 2021, requested civic bodies to allocate 240 EWS flats and a community center for Rohingyas in the Bakkarwala area.

CM Atishi’s social media statement in Hindi comes amid BJP's accusations that the AAP government included names of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in the voter lists.

Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva criticized AAP over “fraudulent voters” in the electoral rolls, warning illegal voters that they could face a year in jail for impersonation or engaging in unlawful voting.

Meanwhile, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP and the Election Commission of removing the names of its supporters from the rolls, while the Delhi BJP pledged to prevent any Rohingya, Bangladeshi, or fraudulent voter from casting a ballot in the upcoming Assembly elections.
