BJP and AAP Engage in Tensions Over Allegations of Fraudulent Voters

New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) A heated exchange erupted between the Delhi BJP and the AAP concerning fraudulent voters appearing on the electoral rolls for the upcoming Assembly polls. The Opposition reminded that illegal voters face a one-year jail sentence for impersonation, while the ruling party accused a conspiracy to erase the names of its supporters from the voter list.

AAP's National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, accused the BJP and the Election Commission of orchestrating the removal of his party's voters from the electoral rolls. In response, the BJP pledged to ensure that not a single Rohingya, Bangladeshi, or any fraudulent voter would be allowed to vote in the Delhi Assembly elections.

The Delhi BJP chief, Virender Sachdeva, released videos captured by BJP booth-level workers during their visits to homes of purported fraudulent voters in Moti Nagar and Trilokpuri constituencies. He stated, 'Kejriwal is agitated as his deception is being unveiled. Fraudulent Rohingya and Bangladeshi voters are being identified, and voters from Uttar Pradesh who travel to vote in Delhi are being revealed.'

'Kejriwal's questioning of constitutional bodies indicates he has no substantial argument regarding the efforts to eliminate fraudulent voters,' he claimed.

Sachdeva further alleged that Kejriwal was protesting against the removal of names of 6,584 voters who have either passed away or moved out of the Moti Nagar constituency.

He inquired, 'What is the justification for keeping these names?'

The BJP leader accused Kejriwal of propagating falsehoods and failing to provide evidence to back his assertions regarding the unlawful removal of names from the electoral list.

Previously, Kejriwal had claimed a conspiracy involving the Election Commission and the BJP aimed at the large-scale deletion of names of his party's supporters from the electoral rolls, particularly in the Shahdara constituency.

'Democracy is at risk. A voter has the right to vote and choose a government of their preference, as mandated by B.R. Ambedkar. Yet, the EC is blatantly removing voter names based on applications submitted by the BJP,' Kejriwal stated, adding that names of 11,000 voters from Shahdara were being illegitimately removed.

Shortly after Kejriwal's press conference, the Returning Officer for the Shahdara Assembly constituency asserted on X that the allegations regarding attempts to erase 11,000 voters' names from the rolls were inaccurate.

'Only 494 Form 7 had been received in the Shahdara Assembly constituency since October 29, 2024. Therefore, the assertion that 11,018 Form 7 were submitted by the BJP in the past month is factually incorrect,' stated the District Magistrate-cum-Returning Officer of Shahdara district.

The elections to elect a new 70-member Delhi Assembly are set to take place in January-February.
