Abhishek Banerjee Slams BJP for Breaking Promises to Deceased Workers' Families
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 20 (NationPress) Trinamool Congress' general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday accused the BJP of exploiting tragedies, claiming that the party has not fulfilled its promise to support the families of deceased workers.
During an election rally in Balarampur, located in the Purulia district, Banerjee stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had assured the families of deceased BJP members Trilochan Mahato and Dulal Kumar that one family member would receive employment. However, he alleged that despite the passage of eight years, no job has been granted.
Banerjee went on to assert that when the families attempted to seek assistance, the BJP’s Purulia MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato ignored their calls.
In 2018, both BJP workers, Trilochan Mahato and Dulal Kumar, tragically passed away under unusual circumstances in Balarampur, just before the state panchayat elections. Now, as another election approaches, the issue has been revived.
Banerjee remarked: “I recall the unnatural deaths of two BJP workers in Balarampur prior to the panchayat elections in 2018. The BJP has shamelessly politicized these deaths. They secured the parliamentary seat in Purulia in 2019 and won the Balarampur Assembly constituency by a narrow margin in 2021. They engaged in political maneuvers over death and even discussed jobs for the bereaved families. Amit Shah promised them a central office job, but eight years have gone by without any fulfillment.”
According to Banerjee, if a party neglects its workers after eight years, it cannot be trusted to serve the populace.
Additionally, Banerjee scrutinized the candidacy of Jaladhar Mahato, whom the BJP has nominated for the Balarampur constituency.
“I've heard that the new candidate is closely associated with MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato. There are rumors that he offered Jyotirmay Mahato a new car as a bribe to secure his party ticket. I cannot confirm this, but is this what the people of Balarampur deserve? Will you tolerate this insult?” Banerjee questioned.
He also criticized the persistent delays of trains such as the Howrah-Chakradharpur Express and the Purulia Express. He raised concerns about how an MP could guarantee essential services like water and housing if they cannot ensure timely train operations.
Banerjee further accused the central government of neglecting the Kurmi community by failing to acknowledge the Kurmali language and undermining tribal traditions with proposals for a Uniform Civil Code.
“To those who politicize religion, I say that peace and harmony exist at the grassroots. Shantiram Mahato is our candidate; he dedicates himself tirelessly throughout the year. Do not squander your vote this time and ensure a substantial victory for our candidate,” he concluded.
