Bengaluru: Bangladeshi National Involved in Bodhgaya and Burdwan Bombings Receives 7-Year Sentence

New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) A special court in Bengaluru has imposed a sentence of seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) on a Bangladeshi terrorist.

The convict, Jahidul Islam, also known as Kausar, has been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 57,000 in connection with crimes related to dacoity, conspiracy, fundraising, and ammunition procurement.

Investigations have established that the accused entered India after executing a series of bomb blasts in Bangladesh.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court delivered the verdict after confirming his involvement in the Bodhgaya bomb blast of 2018 and the Burdwan blast case from 2014, as well as several incidents linked to the activities of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh India (JMB - India).

This ruling marks the conviction of a total of 11 accused in these cases, as stated by the NIA.

The original case was initiated by Bengaluru City police in June 2019, stemming from information uncovered by the NIA during its investigation into the Burdwan blast, managed by the agency’s Kolkata branch.

The NIA later registered the case and commenced a thorough investigation into the matter, including related dacoity cases.

According to NIA findings, Jahidul Islam, who is identified as the JMB Amir of India, along with the absconding JMB leader Salauddin Salehin, illegally infiltrated into India in 2014 after escaping from Bangladeshi police custody connected to the 2005 serial blasts.

While in hiding, he and his group were implicated in the October 2014 Burdwan blast case.

Following the explosion, Jahidul and his accomplices fled to Bengaluru, where he radicalized and recruited vulnerable Muslim youth from West Bengal and Assam to promote the anti-India agenda of the JMB.

The accused and his associates were also responsible for the blast in Bodhgaya in January 2018.

Further NIA investigations revealed that the accused and his group plotted to generate funds through dacoity to support JMB's activities. In 2018, they executed four dacoities in Bengaluru to finance their operations, which included acquiring ammunition, establishing hideouts, and training for executing terrorist acts.

Efforts to apprehend the absconding accused continue, as stated by the NIA.
