Bengaluru, Jan 23 (NationPress) In a chilling occurrence, a husband immolated himself outside his wife's home in the Nagarbhavi area of Bengaluru on Thursday after failing to persuade her to retract the divorce petition.
The police have identified the husband as Manjunath, a 39-year-old resident of Kunigal town who operated a taxi service. Manjunath had gotten married in 2013 and the couple resided in an apartment in Bengaluru after their wedding. They had a 9-year-old son.
As conflicts arose, Manjunath began living apart for the past two years, and both had initiated divorce proceedings. However, he visited his wife's residence to urge her to withdraw the divorce petition from the court. The police reported that she firmly rejected his request, stating that she had experienced significant distress during their marriage.
When she remained unyielding, he arrived with a petrol can in front of her house, set himself ablaze, and died instantly. Manjunath's parents have accused his wife of being responsible for their son's tragic death. The Jnanabharthi police have registered a case and are currently investigating the incident.
