Bengaluru, Sep 1 (NationPress) In a disturbing event, a 52-year-old man, driven by rejection, tragically killed his ex-partner, a widow, by setting her ablaze. This harrowing incident unfolded within the jurisdiction of the Hulimavu police station in Bengaluru.
The authorities have apprehended the suspect, Vittala, a cab driver, related to this grave offense, as confirmed by police officials on Monday.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Vanajakshi, hailed from Samanduru village in the Anekal taluk, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
This dreadful occurrence transpired on August 30, with Vanajakshi succumbing to her injuries at a Bengaluru medical facility.
Her partner, Muniyappa, reported the incident to the police, who have since initiated an investigation.
According to the FIR, Vanajakshi had been living independently with her son after separating from her husband three years earlier.
Her spouse had passed away six months ago, and Muniyappa had subsequently entered her life, often visiting her home. On the day of the tragedy, Muniyappa was driving with Vanajakshi and another woman, Lakshmamma, along Bannerghatta Road.
Near Hommadevanahalli, Muniyappa noticed another vehicle tailing them while honking incessantly. Upon stopping, Vittala emerged from his car wielding a petrol can, dousing Muniyappa’s vehicle in fuel. He attempted to block the car doors to prevent their escape. Although Muniyappa managed to flee, Vittala poured petrol on him.
Vanajakshi also exited the vehicle and ran after Muniyappa. Tragically, Vittala sprayed her with petrol, and as she stumbled on a muddy path, he ignited her with a lighter. He also assaulted another individual who tried to assist.
In the chaos, Vittala sustained burns but managed to escape after discarding his shirt. Before losing consciousness, Vanajakshi revealed to Muniyappa that her assailant was Vittala, who had been harassing her for several days.
She implored Muniyappa to look after her son and ensure Vittala faced justice, as per the FIR.
Further police inquiries indicated that Vanajakshi had previously been in a live-in relationship with Vittala. They had a dispute last month, prompting her to end their association. Vittala had been married twice previously; his first wife died, and his second eloped.
DCP Electronic City, Narayana. M, remarked that this incident stemmed from domestic strife and unfortunate circumstances. The police apprehended the suspect within 24 hours and commended the bravery of the individual who attempted to save the woman.
The investigation is ongoing.
