Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka), Jan 1 (NationPress) - A tragic incident unfolded in Tarikere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district on Thursday, where a man was murdered for allegedly sending Instagram messages to his former girlfriend, who is engaged to another individual.
The victim, identified as 21-year-old Manjunath, hailed from Udeva village near Tarikere. The apprehended suspects include the girl’s brother Kiran, her fiancé Venu, along with their associates Appu and Manju. Manjunath was attacked with a knife on Wednesday night close to the Attiganalu village flyover and later died from his injuries at a local hospital.
According to law enforcement, Manjunath and the woman were in a previous relationship that she ended. She had recently become engaged to Venu but Manjunath allegedly persisted in sending her messages on WhatsApp and other social media platforms despite multiple warnings.
Recently, he had shared a birthday wish for her on Instagram, which displeased her family, prompting Venu to confront them regarding the situation.
On the night of the incident, Kiran reportedly summoned Manjunath to the flyover and questioned him about the messages sent to his sister. Venu is said to have confronted Manjunath about his intentions, leading to a heated argument that escalated into violence. Kiran, in a fit of rage, allegedly stabbed Manjunath, as per police accounts.
Local residents rushed Manjunath to a nearby hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
The Tarikere police have initiated an investigation and have filed a case regarding the matter.
