Patna, April 18 (NationPress) Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal on Friday lambasted the Congress’s newly unveiled women-focused initiative, ‘Mahila Ki Baat, Congress Ke Sath’, raising doubts about the party’s dedication to women’s empowerment during its long tenure in power.
The campaign was officially launched on Friday at the Congress state headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram, with prominent leaders including Mahila Congress national President Alka Lamba, Bihar Congress president Rajesh Kumar, Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Madan Mohan Jha, and MLA Pratima Das revealing the campaign banner.
In a conversation with IANS, Jaiswal remarked: “What was the Congress doing for 65 years? Today, they suddenly remember women’s respect and rights? Why didn’t they provide reservation for women when they were in power for decades?”
Emphasizing the accomplishments of the NDA government in Bihar, Jaiswal praised the efforts under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
“Under Nitish Kumar's leadership, women have been granted reservations in local and municipal bodies, government jobs, and recently, in educational institutions. No other state has achieved as much as Bihar for women’s empowerment,” he stated.
“The 'Jeevika Didi' programme, which originated here, is now being adopted nationwide by the Modi government. This is true empowerment, not just slogans.”
Jaiswal also condemned the recent communal unrest in Murshidabad, West Bengal, labeling it as “inhuman” and “deeply shameful”.
He accused the INDIA bloc and the Mamata Banerjee administration of intentionally creating communal discord for political advantage.
“Such incidents form part of a broader agenda to divide Hindus and Muslims for political gain. But the reality is, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians are all equal citizens of this nation. Those engaged in the violence do not represent any religion; they are anti-social elements that must be dealt with firmly,” he asserted.
He further added, “These leaders thrive on hatred. Similar tactics were observed during the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests. I urge Mamata Banerjee to cease playing with people’s sentiments. Be it Bhagwan or Allah, no one endorses such divisive politics. She must respect the Constitution and laws of the land.”
The unrest in Murshidabad reportedly arose during protests by segments of the Muslim community against recent changes to the Waqf Act, which protesters argue would lead to the centralization and misuse of Muslim charitable properties.
In the aftermath of the disturbances, security measures have been significantly enhanced in the impacted areas. Paramilitary forces have been deployed alongside the state police, and 274 individuals have been apprehended thus far for their alleged roles in the clashes.
