Patna, Nov 29 (NationPress) – Following the circulation of a video that allegedly depicted supporters firing guns into the air during Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha's victory parade in Lakhisarai, Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar clarified on Saturday that the weapons used were "firecracker guns" and not actual firearms. Sinha, who has secured his seat in Lakhisarai for the fifth time, was celebrated by a large gathering.
The viral video sparked significant backlash, with many assuming it showed illegal firearm use. However, investigations by the police revealed that these claims were inaccurate.
SP Ajay Kumar stated that the object shown in the video was seized and inspected by an armorer, confirming it was not a genuine rifle but rather a firecracker gun. These devices are typically utilized for celebrations, scaring birds, and deterring wildlife such as nilgai and boars that threaten local agriculture.
"It poses no danger to life or property," stated the SP, emphasizing the harmless nature of the device. Locals noted that such items are traditionally employed at weddings, festivals, and other celebrations. After verifying the accounts of witnesses, police released the two individuals seen operating the device in the footage.
The Superintendent of Police urged the community to verify the credibility of any video or claim before distributing it online, warning against the proliferation of false information.
He reiterated that the celebratory firing involved only a firecracker filled with gunpowder, not live ammunition.
In response to the viral video, leaders from the RJD party swiftly criticized the Deputy Chief Minister. RJD's official account on X remarked, "Fire the bullet, show the double-barrelled gun, intimidate the public - the government of loud speeches has arrived. For the next five years, expect nothing more than sermons based on stories from 25-30 years ago because this government is capable of nothing else."
RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed also condemned the administration, commenting, "The gunfire that welcomed Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha reflects the actual situation in Bihar. While the Home Minister speaks about eradicating crime, the government must clarify what will be done about those who instigate fear among the public with such actions."
