Bihar Hosts BPSC Re-Examinations at 22 Locations

Patna, Jan 4 (NationPress) While a group of candidates along with Jan Suraaj convener Prashant Kishor are staging a protest here, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has initiated re-examinations at 22 locations for those affected by the disturbances on December 13, 2024, at the Bapu Examination Centre.
The examination scheduled for December 13 was canceled due to confusion stemming from the late arrival of question papers. The situation worsened when some candidates smuggled mobile phones into the examination venue, capturing the chaos and potentially spreading it online.
Numerous candidates are demonstrating at Gardanibagh, voicing their grievances regarding the examination arrangements and subsequent issues.
Prashant Kishor, a noted political strategist, is also conducting a sit-in at Gandhi Maidan under the Bapu statue, which has been ongoing for three days, shedding light on wider dissatisfaction and seeking to highlight the concerns of the affected candidates.
In response, the district administration of Patna has deployed a substantial police presence around the examination centres to maintain order and avert any incidents.
Section 144 has been enforced, banning gatherings around examination venues to mitigate protests and maintain a controlled atmosphere.
Officials assigned to the exam centres conducted thorough checks on candidates before they entered, ensuring that no prohibited items, including mobile phones, were allowed inside.
Only admit cards, pens, and water bottles are permitted, minimizing the risk of malpractice or further disruptions.
The district administration is also overseeing all 22 examination centres using CCTV cameras. Additionally, 65 duty magistrates have been assigned to the centres, with 14 stationed at the control room, to closely monitor the examinations occurring between 12 noon and 2 p.m.
Initially, 12,000 candidates registered for the examination at the Bapu centre, but only 7,000 have downloaded their admit cards for the re-examination.
The district administration faces the dual challenge of ensuring a smooth re-exam process while addressing protests at Gardanibagh and Gandhi Maidan, further intensifying the pressure on the administration.
The heightened security and administrative scrutiny underscore the importance of the situation. Any misstep could further damage the reputation of the BPSC.
