Tragic Discovery: BJP Worker Found Dead in Haldia Before Modi's Rally
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 8 (NationPress) The remains of a deceased Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member were discovered in Haldia, situated in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal, on Wednesday evening, just a day before a major election rally featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 9.
The individual has been identified as Mahadeb Biswas. His remains were found along the banks of the Haldi River in the Balughata region of Haldia, a significant industrial center in East Midnapore.
The body showed signs of violence, with multiple injury marks and was soaked in blood.
The cause of death is still under investigation, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. However, family members suspect foul play and believe it might be a murder.
According to reports, Mahadeb had been unaccounted for since Tuesday evening. His wife recounted to journalists that he had left home for work and never returned.
"I firmly believe this is a deliberate act of murder. His throat appears swollen, and there are severe injuries on his limbs," she stated.
Local BJP officials have also suggested that this incident was a calculated and cold-blooded murder. A local BJP representative remarked that Mahadeb was an active party member.
They further alleged that, as the assembly elections in West Bengal approach—with all constituencies in East Midnapore set to vote in the first phase on April 23—this murder was orchestrated to instill fear in the community, making Mahadeb a casualty of this plan.
Conversely, local leaders from the Trinamool Congress have dismissed any political implications surrounding the death.
A Trinamool Congress representative expressed skepticism about whether the deceased was genuinely connected to the BJP.
The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into this case.
