Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 24 (NationPress) The discovery of a local BJP worker's body in Raidighi, located in the South 24 Parganas district, has ignited significant unrest in the community as of Tuesday. While the BJP asserts it was a politically motivated murder, law enforcement has apprehended the victim's wife and her suspected lover based on a complaint from the victim's family.
The deceased, 39-year-old Kishor Majhi, held the position of vice-president within the BJP unit for Booth No. 216. The tragic event unfolded in the Mena locality, part of the Dighirpar Bakultala Gram Panchayat in the Raidighi Assembly constituency.
Residents found Kishor’s disfigured body near a pond close to his residence late on Monday night. Emergency services rushed him to the Raidighi Rural Hospital, but medical staff declared him dead upon arrival.
Upon notification, police recovered the body and arranged for a post-mortem examination.
Initial investigations indicate that the incident may be linked to unresolved personal relationship issues.
As part of the inquiry, police have detained three individuals for questioning.
Eventually, authorities arrested the victim's wife, Anima Das, and her alleged partner, Gobinda Haldar.
These arrests were prompted by a formal complaint lodged by the victim's father.
The sister-in-law of the deceased remarked, "Gobinda Haldar, our neighbor, is responsible for this tragedy. There had been ongoing domestic conflicts due to his illicit involvement with her. We do not suspect any political motives in this matter."
Bishwa Chand Thakur, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for the Sundarbans Police District, confirmed that the arrested individuals are currently undergoing interrogation.
This incident has incited a political dispute among local factions.
Upon hearing the news, Palash Rana, the BJP candidate for the Raidighi Assembly constituency, visited the home of the deceased early on Tuesday. He accused the police and local Trinamool Congress leaders of attempting to downplay the incident as merely a case of personal relationships. He stated, "If they try to obscure this murder, their efforts will be in vain. The BJP will persist in demanding justice for this crime."
In response, the Trinamool Congress has vehemently rejected the claims made against them. Bapi Haldar, the Trinamool MP from Mathurapur, stated, "The BJP is exploiting this situation to create unrest. Fundamentally, this is a matter of a love triangle, and the BJP’s attempts to blame the Trinamool are reprehensible."
