Gurugram, Feb 15 (NationPress) The BJP demonstrates strong confidence in new candidates for the forthcoming Municipal Elections. Among the party's former councillors, merely five have been granted tickets. Out of 36 wards, new candidates are set to compete in 31.
Earlier today, the BJP revealed the names of its ward councillor candidates for the MCG elections. Rajrani Malhotra will be contesting for the mayoral position, a decision announced on Friday evening.
The list includes former councillors such as Brahm Yadav from Ward 9, Kuldeep Yadav from Ward 11, Aarti Yadav from Ward 24, Anoop Singh from Ward 25, and Dharambir from Ward 28, who have all been given tickets by the BJP.
Many previous candidates who contested as independents in the 2017 elections have also received tickets this time. Madhu Batra, spouse of former senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra from Ward 30, previously won the 2017 corporation election as an independent. Dilip Kumar Sahni has secured a ticket from Ward 31.
In 2017, his wife Rajni ran as an independent and triumphed over Geeta Rani of the BJP by a margin of 2,984 votes. Sheetal Bagdi from Ward 33 and Rekha Saini, the spouse of former councillor Dinesh Saini from Ward 36, have also been awarded tickets.
Dinesh Saini won the 2017 election as an independent from Ward 8 by just 98 votes. Sheetal Bagdi similarly claimed victory as an independent.
In the 2017 MC elections, 14 candidates emerged victorious on BJP tickets. However, this round sees many former winners being denied tickets. Shankutala Yadav, who won from Ward 2 on a BJP ticket by 2,010 votes, has not been nominated this time.
Likewise, Ravinder Yadav from Ward 3, who won by 1,249 votes on a BJP ticket, was not selected this time around. Rimple Yadav, wife of former Mayor Vimal Yadav, previously won by 906 votes from Ward 5 but has also not received a ticket.
Victors such as Ashwini Sharma from Ward 23 and Sunita from Ward 33, who won on BJP tickets, are also absent from the nomination list this time.
In 2017, the BJP secured 14 out of 35 seats. The Congress did not contest under its symbol, leading to several independent candidates winning, many of whom later joined the BJP, increasing their numbers to 27 in the corporation.
The currently revealed ticket list includes: Sunder Singh from Ward 1, Jyotsna from Ward 2, Pawan Yadav from Ward 3, Sandeep Yadav from Ward 4, Rakesh Rana from Ward 5, Ekta Tyagi from Ward 6, Mukesh Kaushik from Ward 7, Naresh Kataria from Ward 8, Brahma Yadav from Ward 9, and Ajit Yadav from Ward 10.
Furthermore, Kuldeep Yadav from Ward 11, Seema from Ward 12, Pawan Saini from Ward 13, Pratham Vashishth from Ward 14, Bharti Harsana from Ward 15, Vikram Jeet from Ward 16, Aanchal Bhati from Ward 17, Priya from Ward 18, Amit Raj Singh Bhadana from Ward 19, Narayan Bhadana from Ward 20, Sonia Yadav from Ward 21, Vikas Yadav from Ward 22, Kuldeep Yadav from Ward 23, Aarti Yadav from Ward 24, and Anoop from Ward 25 have all been awarded tickets by the BJP.
Sunita Rani from Ward 26, Chanchal Kaushik from Ward 27, Dharamveer from Ward 28, Usha from Ward 29, Madhu Batra from Ward 29, Dilip Kumar Sahni from Ward 30, Vijay Parmar from Ward 31, Sheetal Bagdi from Ward 33, Surekha Chauhan, Varun Kaushik from Ward 35, and Rekha Saini from Ward 36 have been nominated by the BJP.
Meanwhile, as of Saturday, 21 candidates submitted their nominations for the MC elections in Municipal Corporation Manesar, while 15 candidates filed nominations in Municipal Corporation Gurugram. No candidate has filed nominations for the mayoral position from either Municipal Corporation.
