Delhi BJP Condemns AAP for Misinformation on MCD Committee

Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) The Delhi BJP strongly criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including municipal councillors, for disseminating false information regarding the supposed “dissolution” of the significant Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Praveen Shankar Kapoor, spokesperson for Delhi BJP, emphasized that the term 'Standing Committee' itself indicates that it is a permanent entity that cannot be dissolved.
He asserted that the claims made by AAP leaders about the ruling BJP having disbanded the Standing Committee are entirely unfounded. “This is incorrect — the committee remains operational,” he stated.
Kapoor explained that during municipal elections, members of the Standing Committee are re-elected, allowing the committee to function for a full five-year term. “One-third of its members retire at regular intervals and are substituted with new ones,” he elaborated.
With the financial year closing on March 31, numerous Standing Committee members, including key AAP figures, have retired. Following this, AAP leaders have initiated a wave of misinformation, according to Kapoor.
The Delhi BJP spokesperson noted that the continuous complaints from AAP leaders about the Standing Committee highlight their growing frustration and the increasing public discontent towards them.
He pointed out that the same AAP leaders now invoking municipal regulations and spreading confusion had previously obstructed the formation of civic committees after winning the Municipal Corporation elections in 2022.
During AAP's administration in the MCD, even the influential Standing Committee was rendered ineffective for nearly 30 months, Kapoor remarked.
“At that time, they showed no concern for municipal regulations or the halted development projects in Delhi,” he stated.
Furthermore, the spokesperson indicated that, over time, the financial authority of not just municipal commissioners but all department heads nationwide tends to expand.
The increase in the financial powers of the Municipal Commissioner in Delhi has been enacted in consideration of the prevailing economic conditions and project valuations.
Had AAP not interfered with the establishment of the Standing Committee for 30 months, the commissioner’s financial authority could have been less drastically increased.
