Chennai, Aug 2 (NationPress) In a significant move aimed at revitalizing and safeguarding Tamil Nadu’s dwindling water resources, Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran has initiated a comprehensive state-wide campaign called ‘Nirvalam Kappom’ (Let’s Protect Our Water Resources).
This campaign was officially unveiled on Saturday, coinciding with the auspicious day of Aadiperukku, a festival that honors the vital rivers of the state.
In a public statement, Nagendran pointed out the alarming state of Tamil Nadu’s rivers, lakes, tanks, and other water bodies, which have increasingly suffered from pollution and neglect. “These once-thriving water bodies are now suffocating under the weight of rampant pollution and governmental indifference,” he noted, expressing concern that the current state of these essential resources affects farmers, environmental advocates, and ordinary citizens alike.
Under the ‘Nirvalam Kappom’ initiative, the BJP aims to lead a grassroots movement focused on protecting and rejuvenating Tamil Nadu’s water bodies. The campaign intends to engage local communities, environmental specialists, and party volunteers to raise awareness, organize clean-up efforts, and advocate for policy-level changes. Nagendran also mentioned that petitions would be forwarded to the Union Ministry for Jal Shakti and the Central Government, seeking prompt action and intervention for the restoration of water bodies.
He added that legal measures would be considered to ensure the preservation of rivers and lakes from encroachments and deterioration. As part of this movement, the BJP plans to conduct awareness campaigns and mobilize volunteers throughout all 67 districts of Tamil Nadu.
Activities will encompass environmental evaluations of rivers, pollution source mapping, and public outreach initiatives. Particular emphasis will be placed on educating the youth and students about the significance of water conservation.
Nagendran expressed optimism that the campaign would evolve into a movement for the people, transcending political boundaries. “The preservation of water resources is not merely a party agenda. It is a duty we owe to future generations,” he asserted.
He urged the people of Tamil Nadu to come together for this cause, stating, “Let us unite to restore the essential streams of our land. Together, we will protect our water wealth.”
This campaign is perceived as a strategic effort by the BJP to affirm its commitment to environmental issues while engaging with grassroots communities across Tamil Nadu.
