Kolkata, Dec 27 (NationPress) Folk singer and now a politician, Ashim Kumar Sarkar, who represents the BJP in the Haringhata Assembly constituency of Nadia district, West Bengal, has taken the step of filing a police complaint due to what he describes as a threat to his life.
In his report, Sarkar stated that he has been subjected to a series of death threats over the past few days.
The complaint, lodged at Chakdaha Police Station in Nadia district, includes two mobile numbers from which he has been receiving these threatening calls.
He urged the authorities to swiftly trace the callers and initiate the necessary legal proceedings against them.
According to Sarkar, some comments he made regarding the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment worker in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, and the ongoing violence against Hindu minorities there were misconstrued by certain individuals on social media, leading to these threats.
He recounted that the callers started with abusive language before issuing death threats.
These calls have continued from the two specific numbers, which he has provided to the local police.
During a recent address at the Benapole-Petrapole Border with Bangladesh in North 24 Parganas district, he shared insightful comments about a specific religious text.
“While some may disagree with my statements, there are legal avenues to contest them. I firmly believe that an organized group is responsible for these threats. I've filed a formal complaint, and I trust the police will take appropriate action,” Sarkar disclosed to reporters.
Recently, he has been particularly vocal about the violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, even advocating for a surgical strike by the Indian Army similar to prior actions in Pakistan.
Additionally, he criticized recent statements from certain political factions in Bangladesh regarding claims of seizing the Seven Sisters, labeling them as fantasies of weak-minded individuals.
