New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Delhi BJP has nominated Shikha Rai, the inaugural female chairperson of the Standing Committee of the former South Delhi Municipal Corporation, to contest against Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Transport Minister of the AAP government, in the Greater Kailash (GK) constituency for the upcoming Assembly election scheduled for February 5.
In the previous election of 2020, the BJP's candidate lost to Bharadwaj by a margin of 16,809 votes. Bharadwaj is a three-time legislator representing this south Delhi seat. The Congress party has put forward Garvit Singhvi as their candidate from the same constituency.
Alongside Rai, the fourth list of the BJP nominees revealed another contender against a Delhi government minister: Anil Vashisth, who will compete against Environment Minister Gopal Rai in the Babarpur constituency located in northeast Delhi. The Congress has nominated Mohd Ishrq Khan for this seat.
With the announcement of nine candidates in the fourth list, the BJP has now revealed a total of 68 candidates out of the 70 required for the elections. The deadline for filing nominations is Friday, with January 20 set as the last date for withdrawal of names.
The NDA still needs to declare its candidates for the Burari and Deoli constituencies.
The fourth list was released and signed by Arun Singh, the BJP’s National General Secretary and in charge of the headquarters.
According to the recent list, the BJP has nominated Ravinder Kumar for the reserved seat of Bawana, Poonam Sharma for Wazirpur, Bhuvan Tanwar for Delhi Cantonment, Chandan Kumar Choudhary for Sangam Vihar, and Ravikant Ujjain for Trilokpuri (SC).
Additionally, the BJP has selected Sanjay Goyal for Shahdara and Praveen Nimesh for Gokalpur (SC).
Previously, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva dismissed rumors regarding difficulties in candidate selection.
“There is no problem or difficulty. It is part of a strategy. The names will be made public well in time for filing nominations, and all candidates will emerge victorious,” he stated.
The earlier three lists included candidates such as Parvesh Verma from New Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri from Kalkaji, Satish Upadhyay from Malviya Nagar, and Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar.
The BJP currently holds eight legislators, while the ruling AAP has 62 MLAs in the outgoing 70-member Assembly. The results for the February 5 election will be announced on February 8.
