New Delhi, Jan 26 (NationPress) BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya sharply criticized Congress member Husain Dalwai for his controversial comments regarding the Maha Kumbh 2025, alleging that the party is intentionally offending Hindu sentiments to focus on creating a new Muslim vote bank.
The issue arose after senior Congress leader Husain Dalwai remarked on the preparations for the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh, labeling them as insufficient and lacking basic amenities to manage the massive influx of devotees at Triveni Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers converge. He expressed concern that these inadequacies could result in the spread of diseases.
The Maha Kumbh, a revered Hindu festival, draws millions of worshippers from across India and beyond, who gather to take a sacred dip at the Sangam.
In response to Dalwai's remarks, Bhattacharya accused the Congress of persistently disrespecting Hindu beliefs.
He stated, “The Congress party’s politics is centered around the cultivation and consolidation of the Muslim vote bank. To accomplish this, they often make derogatory remarks and disrespect Hindus. This has become the Congress’ agenda and policy,” Bhattacharya told IANS.
He further added, “By fostering such discrimination within society, the Congress aims to divide communities and strengthen the Muslim vote bank.”
Dalwai, who had previously spoken to IANS, voiced his worries regarding the health hazards related to the Maha Kumbh.
He stated, “A significant number of individuals bathe in the Ganga during the Kumbh, which can contaminate the water. This could result in widespread diseases.”
Dalwai continued, “People believe that bathing in the Kumbh absolves them of their sins, and I don’t challenge this belief. However, the provisions made for such a colossal gathering are inadequate. The arrangements need to be comparable to those provided for Haj. Proper facilities must be guaranteed, including measures to prevent sick individuals from bathing alongside healthy ones, as this can facilitate the transmission of illnesses.”
While Dalwai acknowledged the belief in the Kumbh, he stressed the necessity for better management to avert potential health hazards.
Conversely, Bhattacharya dismissed Dalwai’s worries as an assault on Hindu traditions, reiterating that the Congress is targeting Hindu sentiments for political advantage.
