Key Takeaways
Goalpara (Assam), April 3 (NationPress) - The candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed their heartfelt thanks to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to Goalpara ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for April 9. They appreciated his invaluable guidance and discussed the pressing issue of illegal infiltration in Assam, with BJP candidate Tankeshwar Rabha advocating for the urgent implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
During a public rally in Dudhnoi, Union Home Minister Shah engaged with the community as part of the BJP's electoral campaign.
Rabha, contesting from the Dudhnoi (Scheduled Tribe) constituency, remarked, "This is the first occasion a Union Home Minister has visited our area, and it brings us immense joy as we received his guidance to serve our people better."
He highlighted the challenge posed by illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh, asserting that the UCC's implementation is critical in this context.
"Goalpara faces significant issues with illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, making the UCC's implementation vital. The tribal population here is alarmingly low, not due to a lack of growth but because infiltrators are undermining our culture, heritage, identity, and land," Rabha stated.
He also mentioned that Shah had clarified that the UCC would not apply to tribal communities.
Rabha criticized the incumbent Congress MP Abdur Rashid Mandal from Goalpara West for failing to support the tribal populace.
"There is a Congress MP representing this area. What progress has he made in the past five years? Not a single road has been constructed. The forests, which are vital to us, have been encroached upon by infiltrators from Bangladesh. The Congress party has not stood by the tribal interests here," Rabha asserted.
Notably, Union Minister Shah took a strong stance against illegal infiltration during his rally in Dudhnoi, accusing the Congress party of transforming Assam into a sanctuary for infiltrators.
"We have identified all illegal infiltrators. Give us another five years, and we will ensure their removal," the Union Home Minister promised.
Meanwhile, Tankeshwar Rabha expressed confidence in a BJP victory in the forthcoming elections.
He stated that the tribal communities in the Goalpara West Assembly constituency are firmly aligned with the BJP and the NDA.
BJP candidate Pabitra Rabha, contesting from the Goalpara West (ST) constituency, referred to Home Minister Amit Shah as "Chanakya," a title denoting great political wisdom.
"Amit Shah is known as the 'Chanakya' of Indian politics. We are deeply grateful for his guidance. Today, we witnessed his presence firsthand. I extend my thanks to the BJP for this opportunity," he told IANS.
Pabitra Rabha also noted the impressive turnout at Shah's rally, expressing optimism about the BJP's chances of returning to power in Assam.
Furthermore, he claimed there is "no Congress factor" left in the state.
"They will secure fewer than 20 seats when the election results are declared on May 4," he predicted.
