Majeed Memon Highlights BJP's Struggles in Kerala and West Bengal
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 5 (NationPress) Senior Advocate and former Rajya Sabha member Majeed Memon remarked on Sunday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is encountering substantial political hurdles in states like Kerala and West Bengal. He emphasized that the party's future in these areas appears bleak, despite ongoing efforts.
In an interview with IANS, Memon noted that the BJP has faced difficulties in achieving broad voter approval in these regions, contending that even with aggressive campaigning, success remains elusive.
"In Kerala and West Bengal, the BJP is met with significant obstacles. The citizens there will not easily succumb to their influence, even if they resort to intimidation, financial spending, unleashing agencies, or collaborating with the Election Commission," he stated.
Specifically focusing on West Bengal, Memon affirmed that the populace continues to rally behind Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
"Despite these circumstances, the residents of West Bengal remain steadfastly aligned with Mamata Banerjee and the TMC. The government of West Bengal has firmly dismissed the BJP," he added.
Comparing it to Kerala, Memon mentioned the BJP's minimal presence in the southern state.
"A similar scenario exists in Kerala, where they have secured only one MLA. Their aspirations of forming a government there seem almost impossible," he remarked.
On recent comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Opposition's views on films, Memon stated that while blanket prohibitions are inappropriate, it is within the democratic rights of political parties to voice objections to certain content.
"In targeting the Opposition, he claimed they have consistently pushed for film bans, which is unjustified. However, opposing certain films is vital for the interests of the Indian populace, particularly when the Censor Board fails to prevent objectionable content or glorifies a specific community," the former Rajya Sabha member added.
Memon underlined that achieving electoral victories for the BJP in West Bengal will remain a formidable challenge, irrespective of the candidates chosen.
"It's a highly challenging scenario for the BJP. Regardless of the candidate they nominate for any Assembly seat, be it a celebrity or someone from Delhi, securing victories will not be straightforward. The results will indicate that the people of West Bengal will not endorse the BJP," he stated.
In response to comments from Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Memon criticized the aggressive tone and urged for a cautious approach in bilateral relations.
"Whether it’s Pakistan's Defence Minister or any other leader, remarks like 'we will attack India if this happens' are inappropriate. Pakistan should maintain its boundaries and strive for positive relations with India rather than resort to threats," he concluded.
