In New Delhi on February 17, Bolivia's Vice President Capitan Edman Lara touched down to participate in the AI Impact Summit. He was greeted at the airport by Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey.

According to a post on X, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, remarked, "Vice President Capitan Edman Lara of Bolivia was warmly welcomed by Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, upon his arrival in New Delhi to take part in the India AI Impact Summit. This marks a new beginning in the digital partnership within the friendly relations between India and Bolivia."

The India AI Impact Summit 2026, which began on Monday, has convened heads of state, government leaders, ministers, global tech pioneers, distinguished researchers, and industry participants to discuss the influence of AI in promoting inclusive growth, enhancing public systems, and fostering sustainable development. This is the first global gathering of this magnitude focused on such issues in the Global South.

Spanning five days and concluding on February 20, the summit will feature over 100 government representatives, including more than 20 heads of state, 60 ministers and vice ministers, along with 500+ global AI leaders comprising CEOs, founders, researchers, CTOs, and philanthropic organizations.

On February 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver the inaugural address, establishing the framework for international collaboration and India’s vision for inclusive and responsible AI.

A significant aspect of the summit includes the three flagship Global Impact Challenges - AI for ALL, AI by HER, and YUVAi. These challenges will culminate in the announcement of finalists and a grand finale showcase. They are designed to promote inclusive, responsible, and development-focused artificial intelligence, having attracted over 4,650 applications from more than 60 countries, thus highlighting India's role as a credible global center for responsible and scalable AI innovation.

After a thorough multi-stage assessment conducted by domain experts, policymakers, and industry leaders, the top 70 teams across the three categories have been identified as finalists. These teams will interact with policymakers, industry executives, investors, and academic institutions, receiving recognition and support to scale their innovations on national and global platforms.

The Research Symposium on AI and Its Impact, organized in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad on February 18, serves as the summit's primary academic platform. It has gathered around 250 research submissions from Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with notable attendees, including Estonia's President Alar Karis and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw.

This platform unites internationally recognized AI innovators and leading research institutions to discuss AI-driven scientific discovery, safety and governance frameworks, equitable access to computational resources, and collaborative research efforts across the Global South.
