BRS Calls for Action Against Police Officers Following Assault on ASHA Workers

Hyderabad, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has urged for immediate action against the police personnel implicated in the purported assault on Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers during a demonstration in Hyderabad.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao visited the Osmania General Hospital on Tuesday to meet with the injured ASHA worker following the alleged police attack.
The BRS leader pledged full assistance to the injured individual and promised to bring the matter to the Assembly.
Speaking to reporters, Rama Rao insisted that the government must promptly terminate the police officers responsible for the mistreatment of the women. He noted that it is regrettable the government has not acted even 24 hours post-incident.
KTR mentioned that an Assistant Commissioner of Police and a Circle Inspector behaved inappropriately towards the female protestors outside the Directorate of Medical Health office in Koti on Monday.
He pointed out that the ASHA workers were simply requesting the government to honor its commitment to raise their honorarium to Rs.18,000. The Congress party had promised a year ago that within six months of taking office, they would increase this from the current Rs.9,900 and regularize their employment.
In a related development, the Sultan Bazar police have filed a case against ASHA worker B Tirupathamma for allegedly slapping SHO Srinivasa Chary during the demonstration.
The police have charged her and 11 others under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 126 (2), 127 (2), 221, 223 (a), and 132 r/w 3(5) for assaulting and obstructing public officials on duty.
KTR has demanded the withdrawal of all charges against the ASHA workers, stating that the BRS will address this issue in both the Assembly and Council.
The protest turned chaotic when police attempted to disperse the participants, with officers seen forcibly removing women from the road.
One protestor, who was placed in a police vehicle, allegedly slapped the SHO.
A police spokesperson claimed that the protest was incited by BRS leaders, indicating that the demonstration, originally scheduled for December 12, was pushed forward to coincide with the first day of the State Legislature's winter session.
