ASHA Worker Strikes Policeman Amid Salary Protest in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Dec 9 (NationPress) A female healthcare worker struck a police officer on Monday during a protest advocating for a salary increase.
The incident took place when Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers were rallying to urge the Congress government in Telangana to honor its promise of raising their salaries to Rs 18,000.
The ASHA workers were demonstrating outside the office of the Director of Medical and Health Services (DMHS) located in Koti.
Things escalated when police attempted to disperse the protest, resulting in a heated exchange and physical confrontations between the two sides.
In the chaos, police officers physically lifted the protestors and placed them into police vehicles.
During this tumult, one protestor slapped Srinivas Chari, the Circle Inspector of Sultan Bazar Police Station, as she was in distress after her foot became trapped in a door.
Another protestor lost consciousness while being taken into custody and was promptly transferred to Osmania General Hospital.
In response, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has criticized the alleged excessive force used by police against the ASHA workers.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao questioned the treatment of female police officers towards the ‘mothers of Telangana’. He took to X to ask Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy whether ASHA workers didn’t resemble mothers.
“What crime have they committed that you are dragging them on the streets?” asked the BRS leader, expressing concern over the mistreatment of women from Dalit and marginalized communities.
KTR criticized the Chief Minister for failing to implement the six promises made to the public and instead imposing an emergency as the seventh promise.
The BRS leader also mentioned that the condition of ASHA worker Santoshi was serious and demanded that the government ensure she receives the best medical care.
KTR urged the Chief Minister to address the issues faced by ASHA workers.
