Hyderabad, March 12 (NationPress) The Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana has strongly criticized the purported detention of two female journalists in Hyderabad.

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao, senior leader Harish Rao, and MLC K. Kavitha have expressed their disapproval regarding the arrests of Revathi and Tanvi Yadav, insisting on their prompt release.

Rama Rao took to 'X' to question top Congress figure Rahul Gandhi if this aligns with his 'Mohabbat Ki Dukaan'.

“Detaining two female journalists in the early hours! What is their offense? Voicing public sentiment against the incapable and corrupt Congress Government. The last I checked, the Constitution of India, which you frequently reference, guarantees Freedom of Speech, Mr. Gandhi,” the BRS leader posted.

Rama Rao asserted that the arrest of Revathi from her residence at 5 a.m. indicates an emergency-like governance in Telangana.

The BRS leader remarked that arresting journalists who shared a video of a farmer detailing the struggles he faces under the present administration exemplifies the extreme nature of this government's autocratic rule.

“There is no media freedom in a public regime! Is this the constitutional governance that Rahul Gandhi speaks of? The Revanth Reddy government must cease these assaults and illegal actions against media and social media voices aimed at obscuring governmental failures,” he wrote.

Former minister Harish Rao, while denouncing the detention of female journalists, questioned whether Telangana is experiencing democracy or dictatorship. He stated that the Revanth Reddy government responds to inquiries with arrests.

“The unlawful arrest of a senior journalist at 5 a.m. today reveals the insecurity and cowardice of this government. I vehemently condemn this disgraceful effort to muffle voices and hinder Press freedom,” Harish Rao posted.

The families of the two female journalists expressed concern over their whereabouts as the police have not yet confirmed the arrests.

They insisted that the police disclose the details regarding their arrest and the charges levied against them.
