BRS Calls for Construction of Memorial for Former PM Narasimha Rao in Delhi

Hyderabad, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has urged that a memorial be established for former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao in New Delhi.
BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao raised this issue while addressing the Telangana State Assembly during a special session held to honor the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away recently.
While supporting the call for Bharat Ratna for Manmohan Singh, Rama Rao emphasized that P. V. Narasimha Rao, the son of Telangana, also deserves appropriate recognition and respect.
KTR, as he is commonly known, pointed out that Narasimha Rao is the only Prime Minister without a memorial in the national capital.
The BRS leader requested that the state government initiate a resolution in the State Assembly advocating for the memorial and expressed hope that the Central Government would approve it.
BJP floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy also commented on the absence of a memorial for Narasimha Rao, noting that despite the Congress party's decade-long rule at the Centre, they failed to honor the only Telugu Prime Minister.
He highlighted that it was Narasimha Rao who appointed Manmohan Singh as finance minister.
The BJP leader remarked that the Congress party did not bestow the Bharat Ratna upon Narasimha Rao, and it was under the leadership of Narendra Modi that the highest civilian honor was granted posthumously to him.
Maheshwar Reddy noted that the BJP-led government ensured a dignified state funeral for Manmohan Singh and also allocated space for a memorial in the national capital.
He criticized the Congress for not only denying Narasimha Rao the Bharat Ratna but also pointed out that Sonia Gandhi and her family did not attend the ceremony where the honor was conferred on him, suggesting their resentment towards him.
The BJP leader further accused Rahul Gandhi of disrespecting Manmohan Singh by tearing up an ordinance proposed by him.
Maheshwar Reddy mentioned that while the BJP-led government declared mourning for Manmohan Singh, he has recently learned that Rahul Gandhi plans to visit Vietnam to celebrate the New Year.
These comments sparked strong reactions from the treasury benches. Minister for Legislative Affairs D. Sridhar Babu intervened, advising the BJP leader to remain focused on honoring Manmohan Singh rather than engaging in political discourse. He requested Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to remove Maheshwar Reddy's remarks from the record.
Later, BRS member and former minister Harish Rao referenced an incident where Rahul Gandhi tore the ordinance initiated by the Manmohan Singh administration.
