BRS Calls for a Tribute Memorial for Former PM Narasimha Rao in Delhi

Hyderabad, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has put forth a request for the establishment of a memorial dedicated to former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao in New Delhi.

K. T. Rama Rao, the working president of BRS, made this appeal during a special session of the Telangana State Assembly, convened to honor former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who sadly passed away last week.

While endorsing the proposal for Bharat Ratna for Manmohan Singh, Rama Rao emphasized that the contributions of former Prime Minister and son of Telangana, P. V. Narasimha Rao, deserve appropriate acknowledgment and respect.

KTR, as he is commonly referred to, pointed out that Rao is the only Prime Minister who lacks a memorial in the nation’s capital.

The BRS leader urged the state government to introduce a resolution in the Assembly advocating for this initiative, expressing hope that the Centre would respond positively.

A. Maheshwar Reddy, the BJP floor leader, also addressed the absence of a memorial for Narasimha Rao, noting that despite the Congress party’s decade-long rule at the Centre, they failed to honor Telangana’s son, who is the only Telugu Prime Minister.

He remarked that it was Narasimha Rao who appointed Manmohan Singh as the finance minister.

The BJP leader stated that it was under the BJP government led by Narendra Modi that Narasimha Rao was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, a recognition the Congress had previously denied him.

Maheshwar Reddy mentioned that the BJP-led administration ensured a state funeral for Manmohan Singh, honoring him as a former Prime Minister and has allocated space for a memorial in the capital.

He criticized the Congress for not only overlooking the Bharat Ratna for Narasimha Rao but also for the absence of Sonia Gandhi and her family at the ceremony where the honor was conferred posthumously by the Modi government, suggesting a lingering resentment.

Furthermore, the BJP leader accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of disrespecting Manmohan Singh by tearing up an ordinance he had proposed.

Maheshwar Reddy also claimed that while the BJP government observed a period of mourning to honor Manmohan Singh, he had just learned that Rahul Gandhi would be celebrating New Year in Vietnam.

His comments led to significant backlash from the treasury benches, prompting D. Sridhar Babu, the Minister for Legislative Affairs, to urge the BJP leader to focus on paying tribute to Manmohan Singh without interjecting politics. He requested Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to expunge Maheshwar Reddy’s remarks.

Subsequently, BRS member and former minister Harish Rao echoed the sentiment regarding Rahul Gandhi’s past actions against the ordinances introduced by the Manmohan Singh government.
