Businessman Gunned Down in Sahibganj, Alarm Raised Over Jharkhand's Law Enforcement

Sahibganj, Dec 2 (NationPress) A disturbing event unfolded as well-known businessman Shaligram Mandal was fatally shot in broad daylight in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district. This incident has sent ripples of fear across the community and raised urgent questions regarding the state’s law enforcement capabilities.
Mandal, recognized for his operations in the petrol station and bus transportation sectors, was the owner of the "Mandal Coach" fleet. The tragic event transpired on Monday near Teen Pahad in Rajmahal city, while Mandal was heading home after collecting cash from his petrol station.
Witnesses recounted that two assailants on a motorcycle intercepted him and opened fire, inflicting lethal injuries. They made off with approximately Rs 1 lakh before disappearing from the scene.
Despite immediate medical intervention, Mandal succumbed to his wounds at Rajmahal Sub-Divisional Hospital.
DSP Nitin Khandelwal commented, “Initial reports indicate a robbery, but we are investigating all potential leads. We are optimistic about capturing the suspects soon.”
The horrific murder has incited public outrage, with residents gathering en masse at the hospital. Senior police officials, including DSP Khandelwal and various station heads, have initiated a thorough investigation.
In an unrelated case in Jharkhand, the body of a young woman, 22-year-old Sanjana Hansda, was discovered near the Kharkai River in Saraikela district. Police inquiries revealed that Sanjana was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, who crushed her face with a stone to hinder identification.
Sanjana was last seen heading out to meet her boyfriend on Wednesday, as reported by her cousin. Her family initiated a search after she failed to return, but they only officially reported her missing after four days. The police later recovered her body from the river, which was subsequently identified by her family.
The suspect, who resides in the vicinity of Kandra police station, is currently on the run. Authorities are actively pursuing him with raids to secure his arrest.
These occurrences underscore the escalating crime rates in Jharkhand, amplifying public anxieties about the efficacy of law enforcement in the region.
